Man accused of wife's beheading appears in court

Yet another domestic violence incident that ended with the husband chopping off his estranged wife's head. Have you noticed that in so many of these shocking stories involve an "estranged" wife or girlfriend that has filed a restraining order against the ex husband or boyfriend, but nothing is ever really done to protect the woman from harm? The man in Buffalo, New York, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 37-year-old wife, Aasiya Zubair Hassan, days after she filed for divorce and was granted a restraining order against him.

First of all, why is this bastard only charged with SECOND DEGREE MURDER??? The general rule is 1st Degree is pre-meditated, planned out or particularly cruel. 2nd Degree is not planned out. Excuse me, maybe Hassan didn't spend weeks planning the decapitation of his wife, but her murder was definitely cruel. There were also numerous calls to the police reporting domestic violence in the home and nothing was ever done. A blog was posted by a woman in Pakistan claiming she is the sister of this "brutally murdered woman" and stated "She lived her 8 years of married life with fear in heart," Zubair wrote. "He had already frightened her enough that she couldn't muster up her guts and leave him, and when she finally did gather that much strength he killed her so brutally. She lived to protect her children from this man and his family and she died doing so."

This creep should be charged with 1st degree murder and receive the death penalty -- life in prison just doesn't cut it especially since it will be the taxpayers supporting this sub-human for years to come. He needs to answer for his cruelty and viciousness to the mother of his children.

It's amazing how our society today still does not take it seriously when a woman files a restraining order against someone who she is obviously in fear of her life. Believe me, if someone scared me that much, screw the restraining order. It doesn't seem to matter anyway. I would do whatever I could to protect myself and my children, because it is obvious no one else is going to protect you unless you can afford your own personal bodyguard.

My heart goes out to Aasiya's children who no longer have a mother to grow up with, to her family who will never again speak to her or hug her, and to Aasiya who will never have the happy married life that she dreamed of.

Domestic violence against women in the U.S. is becoming an epidemic and we have to do whatever we can to prevent and stop this brutality. We may have come a long way and voted in a black president, but as far as I'm concerned, women's rights still have a long way to go.
